Your (Frequently Asked) Questions Answered!

The Disaster Detectives: An educational and fun (we promise!) podcast investigating the events behind some of history’s worst disasters.

What kinds of disasters do Joseph and Katie investigate?

The Disaster Detectives explore both natural and man-made disasters, examining the evidence. All of the disasters we investigate occurred sufficiently in the past for lessons to be learned, policies to be enacted, and progress to be made in relevant fields to ensure that we can predict, prevent, or mediate future disasters. The goal is to educate and inspire – NOT to scare!

How can The Disaster Detectives encourage my child’s curiosity?

The Disaster Detectives engage kids with intriguing stories and facts, sparking curiosity and promoting research skills. Some of the best bits (we think) are the facts about how humans have reacted to disasters through research, planning, and prevention. Human responses to disasters offer some of the best examples of human ingenuity out there, and we want kids to be inspired!

What makes The Disaster Detectives podcast unique?

The Disaster Detectives stand out by blending humor and seriousness, encouraging kids to think critically and be curious. The Disaster Dossier is a unique mechanism that introduces kids to the key concepts of collecting data and organizing the information. These are important skills to develop as “first steps” toward more advanced critical thinking and problem-solving.
