Meet the Team! (So Brave.)
Faces for radio: Joseph and Katie toil tirelessly in the archives (and the studio) to keep you informed about all things disastrous – past, pending, and looming in the distant future…

Joseph
Disaster Investigator, sound designer, astronomer
Joseph can often be found out-and-about collecting sounds. Armed with headphones and his trusty microphone he travels the land recording all manner of noises, large and small, from speeding steam trains and the electrical crackle of lightning storms, to buzzing bumbling bees and the twinkling sparkle of babbling brooks. He is rather partial to hot buttered crumpets, and a hearty mug of strong morning coffee.
FEARS: Sinkholes, angry geese, and the sad inevitability of a crumpet falling butter-side down.

Katie
Disaster Investigator, script writer, Dolly Parton devotee
Katie LOVES research. Proper research. Research-with-a-capital-R. Archives, old books, and very long scrolls hold the tiny, elaborate, vintage keys to her heart. If she’s running late, don’t blame Google Maps – she’s probably relying on an old globe. Just an analog kid in a digital world….
FEARS: dark bodies of water, small planes, cumulonimbi, and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE!

Susan
Lead Disaster Investigator, author of Real-life Disasters
Susan Martineau is an award-winning author, editor and first-class fact finder who writes creative and educational books for children. Fascinated by strange and weird information, Susan’s books always shine a light into the most unusual corners of the world around us, sparking a passion for discovery and curiosity in her readers.
FEARS: Deep caves, deadly diseases, and what might be lurking in the depths when I’m swimming in the sea.

Vicky
Disaster Dossier Archivist, illustrator of Real-life Disasters
Vicky Barker is an award-winning illustrator and art director whose humorous, energetic artwork and clear, clever layouts have been bringing children’s books to life for over 15 years
FEARS: Spiders, vomit (I have emetophobia), deep open water and public speaking!
